The Lehighton Fire Police were established in 1955 with members comprising of individuals from both Lehigh Fire Co. #1 and Lehighton Fire Engine Co. #2.  Initially there were 12 members from Lehigh Fire Co. #1 and 6 members from Lehighton Fire Engine Co. #2 that joined the newly formed unit.

The Lehighton Fire Police is an independent organization that provides support to the Lehighton Fire Department and Lehighton Police Department.  The duties of a Fire Police Officer are to assist in providing safety on an emergency scene, crowd control, and directing traffic.  This includes fires, motor vehicle accidents, police incidents, roadway hazards, unsafe road conditions, parades, events, etc.

While there is some training required to be a Fire Police Officer, it is not as intense and time consuming as being a firefighter.  If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member of the Lehighton Fire Police, please contact us!  Volunteers are always needed!
