Lehighton is a good place in which to live

Lehighton is the home of 5537 people according to the 2000 U.S. Census, who live in 2469 housing units. The majority of its residents are of the German ancestry (58%). The diversity of architecture makes the Borough distinctive, attractive and charming, while keeping the neighborhoods peaceful, quite and clean.
The Borough, in 1943, created its own electric power company to distribute power that is purchased in bulk from various sources. The electric distribution and sales within the Borough have permitted the Borough to provide additional quality of life amenities.
The Lehighton based Blue Mountain Health System comprised of Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, and Palmerton Hospital, services the people living in the Borough and region, but it also provides the largest number of well-paid jobs, and generates significant revenue.
The Borough's water facilities include a newly built Water Filtration Plant which treats the water from the Pine Run and Long Run Reservoirs.
Excellent private and public schools. Currently three public schools are located within the Borough of Lehighton. They are the newly constructed Lehighton Area High School, the Lehighton Middle School, and the Shull David Elementary School. The new senior high school campus was developed on the former 70+ acre Carbon County Fairground; the campus to include a future athletic complex. S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church provides kindergarten thru 8th grade school within the Borough. And the Lighthouse Baptist Church and Carbon County Christian Day School offer kindergarten thru 8th grade within seven miles of the Borough.
The Borough is located about five miles from the Beltzville Dam which provides swimming, boating, and fishing activities. In addition to the nearby facilities, the Borough's recreation facilities consist of a Municipal Swimming Pool, and park areas at the Community Grove, Skyline Park, and Baer Memorial Park. Lehighton is developing direct access to the Delaware & Lehigh Heritage Corridor. The Municipal Building houses an amphitheater where outside concerts are frequently held.
Because of its excellent highway accessibility, it is about 30 miles north of the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area, and is about 100 miles to the west of the New York Metropolitan area, and about 100 miles from the Philadelphia area.
